I don't support
female foeticide, but I oppose opposition to what a recent story in The Tribune calls
sex fixing [remember that
opposing opposition to something is not the same as
supporting it]. I'm a strong supporter of
free market, and in my opinion the contemporary desire to have a male child over a female child is driven - in the language of economics - by
demand and supply. It is perfectly okay, in my opinion, if a couple uses modern techniques to
fix the sex of their would-be child.
A free market is self-correcting, and any indiscriminate use of such techniques shall automatically result in a situation that shall make such techniques undesirable. Furthermore, no harm to any living being is involved in the so-called
sex fixing, and this factor itself makes the process legally and morally acceptable. Instead of thoughtlessly opposing
sex fixing, we should analyze its harmless nature objectively, and then form an opinion.
